Ecuador is a country with exceptional biodiversity and constitutes an obliged visit for those who are interested in birds or who want to begin in this nature activity. Ecuador has about 1600 species of birds which makes it one of the most desired locations in the world for bird watching. Within very short distances there are an amazing variety of ecosystems and birds. It is a true paradise for birding. You will see firds of all shapes and sizes here, from huge condors, the biggest flying bird of the world, to minuscule hummingbirds buzzing beside you.

Ecuador bird watching trip 16 days

Visit the hot spots of bird watching throughout the major regions of the country.

Day 1:
Airport Quito
Day 2:
Quito Otavalo via Mojanda lakes and mountains. Condor spotting. Markets of Otavalo.
Day 3:
Otavalo to Intag, visit the coffee cooperative and lodge in the Nangulbi thermal pools
Day 4:

Nangulbi to Junin, night at the community lodge of Junin

Day 5:
Hike to the waterfalls and full day bird watching. (cloud and subandean cloud forest)  A list of birds is available but there are registered more of 200 species of birds registered heree including the Cook of the rocks
Day 6:

Transfer to Mindo.

Day 7:
Mindo, birds and visit to the butterfly farm, optional inner tubing. This is a hot spot of birding in the country.
Day 8:
Visit in the morning to Bellavista reserve and transfer from Mindo to Puluglhua crater and Mitad del mundo monument, after visit to Quito and night there.
Day 9:
Quito, to Cotopaxi national park, lodge in Quinta colorada.
Day 10:

Cotopaxi to Quito, afternoon sightseeing of the city.

Day 11:
Quito to Coca flight, transfer by motor canoe to Yuturi lodge.
Day 12:
Yuturi lodge hikes and activities.
Day 13:
Yuturi lodge.
Day 14:
Yuturi lodge to Yarina.
Day 15:
Yarina to Coca and  Coca to Quito.
Day 16:
Flight back.
